Monday evening 6p-9p

This is an 18+ beginner level course. The fundamentals of wheel work will be covered:

  • Wedging – Preparing the clay by kneading to remove air bubbles and create an even consistency.

  • Centering – Getting the clay perfectly balanced on the wheel so it spins without wobbling.

  • Opening – Making the initial hollow in the centered clay to form the interior space.

  • Pulling up the walls – Raising the clay evenly to create height and thin the walls.

  • Shaping – Controlling the form of the piece by adjusting pressure and hand placement.

  • Trimming – Refining the bottom and foot of the pot once it has dried to leather-hard.

  • Finishing/Glazing – Completing the piece through surface cleanup, decoration, and applying glaze before firing.

Tuition includes: 25lbs of clay. Use of studio equipment. Bisque and glaze firings. Access to studio glazes. Additional open studio time.

Please bring: An apron. Wear clothing/shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy.
